“The average number of calories dieters can expect to eat is 1,700 per day, which makes it easy to create well-balanced meals compared to many restrictive diets.”

    What You Can Eat

    By Myatt Murphy

In Phase Two of Bob Greene's Best Life Diet, you'll be saying bye-bye to six things: soft drinks, fried foods, foods containing trans fats, white bread, regular pasta and high-fat dairy products, including whole milk and high-fat cheeses (although they are allowed back into your diet in smaller amounts in Phase Three.) What you'll be eating instead is a wide variety of veggies, fruits, low-fat and low-sugar foods, such as soy products, whole wheat pasta, frozen fruits and vegetables (i.e. blueberries, strawberries, corn and squash), fresh grapefruit, spinach, mushrooms, shrimp, chicken, vegetable soup, chicken soup, lentil soup and yogurt. Greene also suggests many brand-specific foods, like Raisin Bran, Fiber One, Cheerios, Slimfast drinks and Wasa Crispbreads.

The recipes in his book offer an array of filling and tasty meals, such as strawberry-orange smoothies and whole-wheat toast for breakfast, a walnut cannellini wrap for lunch, chicken sausage jambalaya for dinner, maple-nut yogurt as a snack and roasted peaches with ricotta for dessert.

You'll also drink plenty of water on the diet, as well as soy milk, protein shakes and a variety of teas (including green tea, white tea and assorted herbal teas ranging from Orange Spice to Vanilla Caramel Truffle.)
